Anita Ghai, 57-year-old disabled rights activist, and a professor at Ambedkar University has alleged that she was made to 'crawl' to the passenger coach since the airlines denied her a wheelchair for security reasons.

Ghai said that the wheelchair was only provided to her at the doorstep. Thereafter she was made to crawl from her seat to the stairs, followed by another 15-18 metres on the tarmac - from the aircraft to the shuttle.

She has also called for strict legal action against Air India officials.

According to officials a battery-operated wheelchair couldn't be allowed, so the staff arranged a normal one for Ghai. Further developments are awaited in the case.
