The move comes after the Union government ordered for mandatory pictorial warnings covering 85 per cent of cigarette and beedi packs, effective from April 1.

According to AIBIF, it is difficult to print such warnings on a reasonably large area of beedi packs which have curved areas and wrapping paper edges.

All the beedi manufacturer have halted the production because of the law and have requested the government implement some practical law on the pictorial warnings.

On April 1, cigarette manufacturers stopped production due to ambiguity over the size of warnings that says the pictorial warning should cover 85 percent of the packaging which is a huge area.
