Long-term exposure to air pollution may damage your kidney says a new study.
Findings showed that air pollution increased the chances of developing membranous nephropathy -- an immune disorder of the kidneys -- that can lead to kidney failure.
The previous study showed that exposure to pollution can also cause damage to the respiratory system.
To conduct the recent study the researchers examined over 71151 patient over 11 years and different age groups from China's different cities.
The areas which had the highest level of fine particles in pollution resulted in higher number of membranous nephropathy.
The rate of the same has doubled over the last decade in the region of China.
The results, which appear in an upcoming issue of the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology (JASN), calls for attention to the role of air pollution in the development of kidney disease in urban areas, the researchers concluded.
