Police arrested the manager of a school in Allahabad which refused to allow performance of national anthem on Independence day.
Authorities began the procedure of sealing the school, it is said that the school is being run illegally.
Zia-ul-Haq, the manager of MA Convent School in Baghara locality, was booked under the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act and arrested, officials said.
The authorities have also given permission to look into the matter on how the school was running since last two decades without permission and clearance from the authorities.
The local groups have demanded to shut the school down in 72 hours and BJP has demanded action against the school.
“Orders for sealing the school have been issued. “The education department has been requested to arrange shifting of nearly 300 students enrolled there to some other school so that their studies do not suffer,” officiating District Magistrate of Allahabad Andra Vamsee said.
Many teachers have also resigned last week and also a FIR is being filed by the education department after this the issue came into light.
The manager has defended the move, claiming that the phrase ‘Bharat Bhagya Vidhata’ in the national anthem’s opening stanza violated the basic tenets of Islam.
The education department has already issued a notice to shut down the school.
There will also be an investigation on whether there has been any complained filed before and which was being ignored by the local authorities.
The manager was arrested when there were controversies created regarding this issue.
Authorities have deployed forces around the school to avoid violence in that area.
