Britain's National Health Service (NHS) plans to bring in general practitioners (GPs) from India to tackle a shortage of the health professionals in the UK.

England and India have signed a memorandum of understanding as a starting point to exploring how both countries can benefit from the mutual exchange of ideas.

They have tied up with Apollo Hospitals and have planned to recruit 5,000 extra GPs by 2020.

In a statement, Apollo Hospitals said the MoU would involve an exchange of clinical staff.
